Chris dedicated his life to the rescue and care of hundreds of vulnerable cats. His journey began in 2006, following the heartbreaking loss of his 24-year-old son, Eric, who tragically passed away in a motorcycle accident caused by a stuck throttle. In the depths of grief, Chris stumbled upon a colony of 30 sick and abandoned kittens. Guided by instinct and compassion, he brought them home and nursed each one back to health.

That moment became a turning point. In saving those kittens, Chris found purpose—and a way to channel his love and sorrow into something profoundly meaningful. From that day forward, he made it his mission to protect and care for cats who had no one else. With that, Happy Cat Sanctuary was born.

Founded and solely operated by Christopher Arsenault; dedicated to rescuing, rehabilitating, and protecting cats who have nowhere else to turn.

The mission is to give every cat the chance to live a life free from fear, pain, and abandonment. The organization provides comprehensive care—medical treatment, nutritious food, warm shelter, and emotional healing—to those most in need, including victims of abuse, neglect, hoarding, and even targeted violence.

Many come in blind, injured, or suffering from chronic conditions like FIV. Some have been rescued from unimaginable situations—used as bait in dogfighting rings or left behind in dangerous environments.

The long-term dream of Happy Cat’s founder, Chris Arsenault, was to expand the sanctuary to an upstate location where the cats could roam freely with even more space, safety, and serenity. That vision of open land, fresh air, and unbounded freedom continues to guide the organization’s future.
